More than 50 firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a commercial building in the city of Irvine on Sunday, June 20.
Greg Barta, Public Information Officer for the Orange County Fire Authority, said the call came in about 9:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
The structure fire was found inside a two-story building, located at the intersection of Culver and Ethel Copenhagen Way in Irvine, near San Joaquin Hills Golf Course. In terms of response, Barta said two-alarm fires usually require the assistance of five dozen firefighters.
“It was a two-alarm fire, which is roughly 60 firefighters. When we arrived on the scene, we found a two-story commercial building with heavy smoke and fire in it,” Barta said. “One of the challenges we faced on this one is the building is set back quite a ways from the street. So our firefighters had to put an extensive amount of hose on the ground in rapid time to get after this fire.”
In a series of tweets, OCFA wrote that the cause of the Father’s Day blaze is unknown and currently under investigation.
