The Irvine Police Department arrested a 43-year-old man on Tuesday. Jan. 3, who was later booked at Orange County Jail and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after the man stabbed two people near a shopping center in Irvine.

Ricardo De La Riva, 43, a resident of Irvine, was identified by IPD as a suspect that was involved in a series of possible stabbings near Culver and Walnut Drive.
In a series of tweets, Irvine police reported that De La Riva encountered three different individuals in separate “unprovoked” attacks at approximately 12:20 p.m.
In the first confrontation, the suspect verbally threatened the victim, then lunged at the victim with a knife, injuring the victim with a minor cut.
After injuring the first victim, the suspect was confronted by a man in which a verbal confrontation ensued. After verbally assaulting the second person he encountered, the suspect fled to a nearby neighborhood where he encountered a third victim.
IPD reported that De La Riva stabbed the third victim in the torso and fled the scene.
The suspect ran to a nearby neighborhood and confronted a third victim, and stabbed him in the torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Officers quickly located the suspect within an established perimeter and arrested him.

The identities of the victims are unknown at this time, but at 4:37 p.m. IPD reported via Twitter that the third victim was in stable condition at a local hospital.
