Joan Brown is an American artist and sculptor whose prolific career spanned the 1950s
to the late 1980s. During this time, she created a vast body of work that combined
elements of Abstract Expressionism, Figurative Expressionism, and Bay Area Figurative
painting. Brown’s art is noted for its bold, vibrant colors and its focus on the female form.
She was also a pioneer in the use of photography and collage elements in her
compositions. Brown’s art continues to be admired and highly sought after, and her
work is part of numerous public and private collections, including those of the Museum
of Modern Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. With her unique and
