After Pres. Donald Trump arrived in Orange County for a fundraiser in Newport Beach, the White House announced that it would be distributing 11.9 million rapid corona virus tests to “support the safe reopenings of their communities.”

The point-of-care tests will be coming from a company called BinaxNow, who has a partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD).

No further details were given and as of this writing, Gov. Gavin Newsom has yet to respond to the White House announcement.

Trump was originally to attend fundraisers in California on October 6, but they were postponed after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The president and the state of California worked together most recently to distribute wildfire aid in heavily affected areas. The Trump administration had initially denied the state aid, but was later granted after Newsom spoke on the phone with the president.
