Once again Darrell Kelley is protesting about the injustice and discrimination of American police against his people. This time he is also requesting to respect him and his community people and leave them alone by using a poetic expression in the song as “Take your knees off our necks”.
The song has an amazing flow of lyrics as well as a distinctive video. The official music video of the song has an amazingly unique thing which is the coffin. No, not a simple coffin but one on which all the names of the people who died at the hands of police brutality are written. Moreover, the coffin had loudspeakers. Darrell Kelley said:
“When you see this coffin you’ll hear the message and remember what has happened to these black and brown people. Many people have died because of police brutality. They will listen now.”
Before the release of the album, Darrell organized an album release party on the 7th of August 2021. According to the attendees, the party was awesome and unforgettable. They share that such parties are for a lifetime as no one can forget it. As it was a private release party, no media or paparazzi was invited but somehow Darrell and the coffin went public the next day.
This is not the first time Darrell Kelley raised his voice for police violence. If you have heard Darrell songs before, you will know that in many songs he has discussed this issue such as in the songs ‘Police Brutality’ and ‘Systematic Racism’. He is famous for making songs on social issues which want right at the moment our attention. His songs like Why lie on Queen, Wasn’t Justified, Ronald Greene, Black wall street, Be strong, Coronavirus, and many more are internationally hit songs that point out a social anomaly.
Darrell shared that the reason behind such songs is not fame or popularity but his passion to be a participant in reducing injustice and growing a healthy and prosperous community. He has had this passion since childhood as he has faced some serious issues of discrimination because of being a black person. With the aid of his singing skills, Darrell tries his best to raise his voice to help eliminate injustice. Not only through his songs but Darrell also talks about such issues on social media and does whatever he can to help reduce and spread awareness about them.
Besides singing on serious topics, Darrell composes entertaining songs. Some of these songs got hits and won the hearts of music fans. I’m so High, Baby bae baby, Beautiful, and Moonlight are the songs that got thousands of listeners and streamed on many music channels.
