Disney announced that it would be delaying its reopening plan while it awaits theme park reopening guidelines from the state of California.
Disney had proposed phased reopening plans that included both of its California parks, two hotels and its Downtown Disney area between July 9-23.
With the state not being able to offer reopening guidelines until at the earliest, July 4, Disney felt that it would not have enough time to properly reopen by its initially proposed dates.
“Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials,” Disney said in a press release. “Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date.”
Disney still plans to reopen Downtown Disney on July 9, as they received approval to run its restaurants and shops in accordance with state regulations.

Employee Unions not on Board
Disney will also have to negotiate terms with employee unions before reopening its two California parks. Two of the unions representing Disneyland workers had planned a Saturday protest, as they felt the initially proposed July 17 reopening date was too soon, according to the Orange County Register.
As of this writing, the two unions have not announced if they will continue the protest, in light of the parks delayed reopening plans.
