The Irvine Police Department is asking for the public to come forward with any eyewitness information regarding a fatal traffic collision in Irvine that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old female resident of Irvine, on Monday, Sept. 27.
The fatal collision occurred just after 4:00 a.m., at the intersection of Sand Canyon Ave. and Irvine Center Drive in the city of Irvine. The fatal Irvine collision involved two cars, a Toyota Prius and a Mercedes-Benz C300. Both drivers were alone during the time of the accident.

A statement from the Irvine Police Department indicated that a 21-year-old Irvine man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Earlier Monday, the Irvine Police Department asked motorists in the area to find alternative routes, as the IDPs Major Accident Investigation Team was investigating the area, which was expected to cause delays for at least four hours.
