The Irvine Police Department has announced the arrest of a 45-year-old Irvine woman who was captured on video allegedly poisoning her husband.
The woman, Dr. Yue Yu, MD, a Mission Viejo dermatologist, was reported to the Irvine Police Department by her husband on August 4.
In a statement, IPD said the man reported a month of prolonged illness and suspected he was being poisoned by his wife. In order to obtain proof of his suspicion, the man set up video surveillance which eventually captured his wife adding toxic substances to items he consumed.
“The victim captured video evidence supporting his suspicion and turned it over to police,” the statement read. “Irvine Police Detectives interviewed the suspect, 45-year-old Yue Yu, and served a search warrant at the home she shares with the victim. Yu was arrested for poisoning her husband and booked at Orange County Jail.”
While the man is expected to recover from the poisoning, he sustained what Irvine police called “significant internal injuries.” A motive for the alleged poisoning has yet to be disclosed.
In an email to Irvine Weekly, Irvine Police Sergeant Karie Davies said that due to the ongoing investigation IPD would not be releasing video, adding that the videos and photos of the incident were not released by IPD nor the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
Court records indicate the man, Jack Chen, has filed a restraining order against Yu. A hearing date for domestic violence is set for August 18.
