Yean and Ning Yen came to America with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and the hopes of achieving the “American Dream.” They worked multiple odd jobs in Orange County, until they could afford to pursue their dream of opening Mag’s Donuts & Bakery in Irvine the early ‘80s.

Irvine is known for its sweet dessert options, but there is always room for one more! Enter Mag’s Donuts & Bakery, who just opened the doors of their second Irvine location this month, in the Quail Hill Shopping Center.

Mag’s Donuts first location, located in University Plaza, has been operated by the Yens and their family for over 30 years, and now they’ve decided to expand their reach within Irvine.

“There’s a lot of customers from Shady Hill and Sand Canyon who come to our Culver location, they’ve been telling us we need to open a location closer to them,” Peter Yen told Irvine Weekly. Peter is Yean and Ning’s son, and owner of Mag’s Quail Hill location.

The donuts aren’t the only thing that has customers driving from all over O.C. to Mag’s locations. Mags is also known for its baked goods like cronuts and bagels, as well as an assortment of coffee and tea options.

“My girlfriend likes the blueberry donut holes, but I always grab a bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich,” said repeat customer and Irvine resident, Evander Couzens.

“It’s been fantastic,” said Peter, when discussing the Quail Hill location’s immediate success. “The neighbors and residents of Shady Canyon and Quail Hill have shown us great support so far. We have customers coming every day for our donuts.”

Through November 8, Mags is having their opening celebration complete with gifts, free giveaways and new donut varieties.

“From November 1-8, you can buy two donuts and and get one free!” Peter said. “And you can try one of our gluten-free donuts, which we released just this Monday!”

“Were also offering a coupon giveaway, where customers can win prizes like T-shirts and free dozens of donuts.”
