Thanks to the popularity of the the Irvine Spectrum Center’s Drive-In Movie program, more dates have been added.
The Spectrum’s “Hello, Summer: Drive-In Movies” has been hosting movies in a drive-in format on top of the Regal Parking Deck for the last few weeks. And now, more dates have been added through August 20.
The Hello, Summer Drive-In Movies began on August 5, with the Hunger Games, and has since featured Mean Girls, Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse and Jurassic Park, which actually sold out — and included appearances from Jurassic Park-themed vehicles and props.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has kept families inside with the closure of movie theaters and entertainment centers, it seems Irvine families have enjoyed nights of fresh air, laughs and snacks at the city’s newest drive-in movie theater.
Tickets can be purchased on the Irvine Spectrum’s Events and Promotions page. Doors to the Regal Parking Deck venue open at 6:00 p.m., and the movie begins at 8:00 p.m. Face masks are required when outside of the vehicle.
While Irvine residents look for a chance at normalcy, perhaps the drive-in movie format might become a permanent fixture, considering the shift to outdoor service in the restaurant industry in Irvine and beyond.
