Still no curfew in Irvine, despite boarded up buildings and a large security presence at the Irvine Spectrum.

In a tweet Monday afternoon, the Irvine Police Department addressed concerns about the implementation of a mandatory city-wide curfew directly:

This marks the second night of uncertainty for Irvine, as it prepares to evade damage caused by rioting and looting taking place at anti-police brutality protests around the country to honor George Floyd who was killed in Minneapolis Minnesota while in police custody.

Protesters gathered in front of the Irvine Civic Center Monday evening for a nonviolent protest, many holding Black Lives Matter signs and chanting, “enough is enough.”

Major cities across California have implemented curfews including Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Los Angeles. By 3:00 pm on Monday major portions of South Coast Plaza were boarded up in Costa Mesa.

The Costa Mesa Police Department tweeted requesting the public to follow curfew for their safety.

A photo of  Saint Laurent shows a completely emptied retail space, another obvious sign of precaution being taken by store owners.

On Sunday, May 31 the Irvine Spectrum and Irvine Marketplace were shutdown early, and patrons were told to leave, in order for Irvine Spectrum security officers to barricade the entrances.

The Apple Store, inside the Irvine Spectrum, once a wall of shiny windows peering into the world of user-friendly technology, had become a cube of woodgrain, as the Spectrum Center prepares for another night of uncertainty.

More protests are scheduled across Orange County Monday evening, despite the implementation of city-wide curfews.
