President Donald Trump has confirmed through Twitter that both he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” Trump said. “We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The White House physician released a statement saying the First Couple were recovering at the White House and the president would “continue carrying out his duties without disruption.” The statement also noted that the president and first lady were “both well” at the time of writing.

The president first went into quarantine Thursday after finding out that one of his aides, Hope Hicks had tested positive. Hicks traveled and came into close contact with the president and reportedly began feeling COVID-19 symptoms.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19,” Trump Tweeted early Thursday. “The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

After Trump had announced that he and the first lady had taken the test, the results were returned same day.

In response to the positive tests, Melania Trump said, “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19.”

The first lady added that they are both “feeling good” and she has confirmed postponing her prior commitments.

The CDC recommended quarantine period is at least two weeks. The president had planned a trip to Los Angeles and Orange County for an Oct. 6 fundraiser. The status of his prior commitment have not been addressed as of this writing.

As of Thursday, there have been 7.3 million cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 208,000 deaths. Orange County has reported 53,909 of those positive cases, with 1,274 deaths and 173 current hospitalizations.
