Los Angeles Rams fans in Irvine will miss out on training camp at UC Irvine in 2020, thanks to COVID-19. A sign that even before the 2020 NFL regular season begins, COVID-19 is already creating changes in the league.
Since 2016, the year the team moved back to Los Angeles, the Rams have held portions of training camp on the Irvine campus after agreeing on a multi-year deal with the university.
The news comes as the league begins to start operations for the 2020 season with new NFL & NFLPA rules enacted to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
According to a Tweet from NFL analyst Adam Schefter the NFL sent out a memo to teams, prohibiting the option to travel to alternate practice facilities. Last year, the Rams were one of 10 teams that had alternative camp sites.
Here’s why all teams will be home for training camp: the NFL and NFLPA wanted to limit the need for travel and also limit the risk of maintaining two facilities. They wanted the focus all on one. Last year 10 teams had camp away from facility; this year, none. https://t.co/JtYuvbieHd

Per Schefter, to limit the need for travel and also limit the risk of maintaining two facilities, the Rams will most likely host training camp at Cal Lutheran, in Thousand Oaks, which is close to the team’s headquarters.
In 2019, team was at held training camp at UC Irvine from July 27 – August 4. The Rams have yet to release their 2020 Training Camp schedule.
