Sanrio, the creator of Hello Kitty, Keroppi and other beloved Kawaii characters, is making a home for itself in Irvine with the addition of a boutique store in University Center, across the street from UC Irvine.

Sanrio Irvine made the announcement via Instagram through a series of posts on Thursday, Sept. 2.

Opening Oct. 2, Wendy Hsu, owner of the Irvine Sanrio boutique store, said she is thrilled to bring the cuteness of Kawaii culture into Irvine with Sanrio’s newest boutique that will feature the brand’s latest product releases and limited-edition collectibles.

“Everyone has a special Sanrio story that they hold near and dear to their heart,” Hsu said. “This store’s grand opening and entrance to the Irvine community expands the ability for fans to enjoy Sanrio close to home. We’re so excited to bring this new retail experience to Orange County by spreading even more friendship and kindness through a variety of products and offerings.”

With approximately 1,070 square feet of retail space, Hsu hopes to offer a variety of Sanrio products including plush toys, clothing, along with beauty and stationery products.
