While movie theaters remain closed, the Irvine Spectrum’s rooftop drive-in movies continue to delight crowds beneath the stars.

With the most recent showing of the hit musical “Grease,” on Aug. 23, the list of movies being shown at the Irvine Spectrum’s rooftop the drive-in movie theater will extend through Aug. 30.

The Spectrum’s “Hello, Summer: Drive-In Movies” has been hosting movies and comedy shows in a drive-in format on top of the Regal Parking Deck for the last few weeks. Irvine residents have been cozying up and sharing their outdoor cinematic experiences on social media.

Tickets can be purchased on the Irvine Spectrum’s Events and Promotions page. Doors to the Regal Parking Deck venue open at 6:00 p.m., and the movie begins at 8:00 p.m. Face masks are required when outside of the vehicle.

While Irvine residents look for a chance at normalcy, perhaps the drive-in movie format might become a permanent fixture, considering the shift to outdoor service in the restaurant industry in Irvine and beyond.

COST

Monday & Tuesday
Tickets are $30 per car and include a bag of free popcorn.

Wednesday – Sunday
Tickets are $50 per car and includes a $20 Spectrum Center gift card to use toward the purchase of food before the film.

With movies being extended to August 30, there’s still a few opportunities to check out a movie or two.

Here’s the list for the rest of August:

Tuesday, August 25: The Princess Bride

Wednesday, August 26: Jojo Rabbit

Thursday, August 27: The Sandlot

Friday, August 28: Ghostbusters

Saturday, August 29: Improv Live Comedy Drive-In

Sunday, August 30: Ford v Ferarri

With Orange County now off the state’s COVID-19 monitoring list, it must wait two weeks to begin a phased reopening plan. It is unclear if the Irvine Spectrum’s drive-in movies will continue once movie theaters reopen.
