A Ring Camera mounted inside Donut Star, a small donut shop inside the Alton Square Shopping Center in Irvine, captured the moment an armed suspect allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint.

On Tuesday, May 11, Irvine Police Department Sergeant Karie Davies confirmed the incident in an email to Irvine Weekly.

“It happened at Donut Star on Alton [Pkwy.] and Jeffrey [Rd.] at 5:30 this morning,” Davies wrote. “The victim was robbed at gunpoint by the suspect who fled with $100. The victim chased the suspect and recovered the gun which ended up being an air-soft. The suspect was captured a short time later and arrested.”

A screenshot of the incident taken from a Ring recording is now making its way around the internet.

The screenshot shows an armed suspect pointing a weapon toward the victim, who appears to be held by the suspect’s other arm.

The post, titled, “Donut Star Irvine gunpoint robbery this morning,” has been upvoted more than 500 times on the Orange County Reddit page, with more than 200 comments.

A comment on the Reddit thread, which was originally posted Redditor liverichly, said the victim’s wife posted an update on Nextdoor.

Donut Star is located at 5365 Alton Pkwy., Irvine.
