With summer beginning to wind down, Councilmember Farrah Khan has arranged a sunny day of exercise right here in Irvine.
This Saturday, August 31, Councilmember Khan and Community Service Commissioner Branda Lin have organized a community bike ride through the city, starting at Cypress Village Community Park.
Members and representatives from the Orange County Bicycle Coalition, Bicycle Club of Irvine, The Cyclist Bike Shop and the Irvine Police Department will be present for the morning bike ride, with The Cyclist Bike Shop offering free basic tune-ups for all participants.
“The community bike ride came to be because of mine and commissioner Branda Lin’s recent meetings with members of the Bicycle Club of Irvine and an interest from community members to get more comfortable riding on the trails and streets,” said Councilmember Khan.
“I hope to continue the community bike rides more regularly and throughout the city’s many trails and paths to encourage more active transportation throughout our city.”
Participants can choose between two routes, one being 4.5 miles and the other being 7.1 miles, both of which begin at 8 a.m., with a 7:30 a.m. check-in time. Don’t forget to bring a helmet!
