The West Coast will forever be the best coast. Now, one of the biggest hip-hop festivals of the year returns to FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine on October 19, with some of the most well-respected names to grace the rap game. The all-star lineup includes headliner Snoop Dogg, The Game, Xzibit, Tha Alkaholiks, Sas, Warren G, DJ Quik, Hi-C, Suga Free and Glasses Malone.

How The West Was Won is hosted by 93.5 KDAY, “Hip Hop Back In The Day.” To put it lightly, this is slated to be the biggest old school rap concert to hit Southern California all year. While Uncle Snoop just dropped his newest album I Wanna Thank Me (with features from Slick Rick to Chris Brown to the late Nate Dogg), fans can expect the Long Beach legend to perform his 1993 classic debut album Doggystyle, in full from top to bottom. 

Cece The Mamacita, who is currently on air from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on KDAY states, “I’m so excited for [the] How the West Was Won concert. Of all the concerts we have, it’s my absolute favorite! Having West Coast legends grace the stage for L.A. and just feeling the vibe and energy … it’s incredible! It’s really something you have to experience for yourself. I promise you, you’ll be standing up the whole time rapping and dancing!”

Songs like “Gin and Juice,” “Murder Was The Case” and “Ain’t No Fun” will undoubtedly ensure nostalgia for all those in attendance. In regards so Snoop’s latest album, the title was inspired by his acceptance speech that went viral after receiving his much well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Second up is The Game, who also will be joining Snoop in performing one his most critically-acclaimed projects, debut album The Documentary released in 2005. This was when G-Unit was in its prime, also before the Game and 50 Cent beef took over. “Hate It or Love It” and “How We Do,” both featuring Fiddy became instant club anthems, while “Like Father Like Son” featuring Birdman reminded you the rap game is all about loyalty and family.

West Coast rapper Xzibit’s journey began with his debut studio album At the Speed of Life, which was released in October of 1996. Songs like “Paparazzi” pushed his name from the underground to the mainstream. But it was 2000’s Restless executive produced by Dr. Dre that went on to become certified Platinum. “X” saw both commercial and radio success.

Of course, we remember X’s role creating MTV’s Pimp My Ride, and even his acting endeavors playing Shyne Johnson on Fox’s Empire. Then we have Warren G, whom we may credit as one of the pioneers of West Coast hip-hop. If you’re a day one fan, you recall his stint as part of California hip-hop trio 213 alongside Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg. As much as we love his timeless hit single “Regulate,” it’s his G-Funk sound, style and swag that fans appreciate most.

DJ Quik is another GOAT who’s work will not be overlooked. From the producing side alone, songs like “”Tonite” and “Born and Raised in Compton” remind you of the true Los Angeles heritage these artists stem from.

Joining the OGs on stage is another Los Angeles OG, Glasses Malone, who recently unleashed a controversial single titled “2pac Must Die” from the perspective of Pac’s killer. Of course, we all can agree that Uncle Snoop is the main attraction. Glasses states, “I’m most excited to watch Snoop Dogg performed the greatest album in hip-hop history, Doggystyle! Watching Rage kick the intro!!! Watching the complete Dogg pound including Warren G perform ‘Aint No Fun’….”
