The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved CBD as a safe edible. Generally, CBD does not cause any serious side effects, but some people are specifically allergic to CBD. These can show severe side effects or allergic reactions while taking CBD products.

In this article, we are discussing the possibility of allergic reactions to CBD.

Does CBD Cause Itching?

The major reasons for the popularity of CBD are its effectiveness for different diseases and its safety profile. CBD is a compound that is well tolerated by the human body. There aren’t many severe side effects associated with using CBD products. Some mild side effects associated with consuming CBD are drowsiness, dry mouth, etc.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported that consuming CBD has caused itching in some individuals.  According to the report, a severe skin reaction called urticaria was experienced by one individual who consumed CBD oil orally. Another individual also experienced itching by using CBD topicals and CBD edibles. But researchers were unable to confirm whether these reactions were solely from the use of CBD. There is a chance that those individuals were allergic to some other compounds in the CBD oil they consumed.

Other Allergic Reactions To CBD Oil

In 2013, a study was conducted by The Annals of Asthma, Allergies, and Immunology. According to this study, some individuals showed anaphylaxis and hypersensitivity to the use of cannabis-based CBD. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic condition that makes the airways swell up and as a result, breathing is blocked. Without proper medical attention, this condition can be fatal.

Can CBD Oil Cause Skin Rashes?

Epidiolex is a CBD-based drug approved by the FDA that is used to reduce seizures associated with epilepsy. Many children who used Epidiolex have reported skin rashes. It is also found that Epidiolex can cause liver problems in some children. Liver problems can show symptoms like itching, reduced appetite, dark urine, yellowing of skin and eyes, vomiting, nausea, fever, etc.

Note that the above-mentioned reactions were caused by synthetic CBD. Those who use organic hemp-derived CBD oil face no such issues. Even though Epidiolex contains CBD, it contains many other compounds too.

Can CBD Oil Cause Itching In Your Eyes?

Many types of allergies cause itchy eyes. A person who is allergic to the hemp plant can experience eye itch if the plant’s pollen falls into their eyes. Anyway, CBD doesn’t cause red eyes like marijuana.
