The Irvine-based Orange County Soccer Club will face off against the Oakland Roots Soccer Club in Orange County’s second playoff game Saturday, Nov. 13, in the 2021 USL Champion Western Conference Semifinal. OCSC looks to claim this season’s second playoff win while looking to defeat the Roots SC for a fifth-consecutive time.
This weekend’s playoff match against Oakland will be OCSC’s first game that Head Coach Richard Chaplow enters without his “interim” title. Chaplow was officially promoted to Head Coach on November 9.
Oliver Wyss, president of soccer operations for OCSC, said he admires Chaplow’s winning culture, and brings a familiarity to the club as a former player.
“Richard has been a true winner throughout his entire playing career, and I am convinced he will continue his successful ways as our head coach,” Wyss said in a statement. “Richard is fully aligned with the goals and expectations of our club and we are looking forward to seeing him lead our team for years to come.”
Chaplow, a former OCSC player from 2016-2018, joined the coaching staff in 2019, and was given the interim distinction in August.
“I am honored to be named head coach of Orange County SC and would like to thank the management for the faith they have shown in me,” Chaplow said. “Having grown with the club over the years I understand the expectations and I am excited to lead us forward. My staff and I will do everything we can to put a team on the field that Orange County can be proud of.”
Currently, the team is 8-3-2 under Chaplow’s direction.
